Lollapalooza TBT Performances

After reading Emily's post and wanting to cry, I decided I needed to weed out some memorable performances. I can't claim that these are all my favorites, but they have a lasting impression on me for some reasons.

We're going to go year by year...

2010
I have to put Dirty Projectors from this year because they were so good live and they played before The Black Keys which is a tough act to precede.

Also from the first year, MuteMath because this is where a drugged or drunk man tried puking on Emily. Lollapalooza always provides amazing people watching.

2011
Bright Eyes were definitely the underdog this year. I don't really listen to them much but Emily and I went to listen and we had an interesting experience. During this song I'm about to post, a girl started crying at one point. I didn't realize how emotional it was but this song later became an obsession.

Next, I also have to go Fitz & the Tantrums. They were pretty low on the radar at this point, but another amazing performance. It was hard to pick one song from their set, so I picked their cover of The Raconteurs (Jack White for life, right Emily?)

2012
These two picks are so obvious. Of Monsters and Men are so amazing live and I just want them to produce another album, even though I will never get sick of My Head is an Animal. I just want some more music from them.

My other pick is Miike Snow, hands down the best performance of Sunday (sorry Jack White). I love his music so much and it may have been the beautiful weather and the beers, but his performance was so enjoyable.

Ugh... this is making me so excited for Lolla 2013, but it's so far away!

Until August...

Jeana

#TBT Lollapalooza Emily

Jeana and I suffer from a serious Lollaplooza addiction.  We literally talk about Lollapalooza daily.  It's a serious problem.  It is really hard to believe that this will be our 4th year attending.  We really need  Perry to release the 2013 lineup so I can stop googling Lollapalooza every second.  PLEASE HURRY I DON'T THINK I WILL MAKE IT.  I have never been a patient person so I am being tortured waiting for the lineup.  Here are my TBT favorite past Lollapalooza performances.

Year 1 2010 getting peed on at Phoenix!

Eminem 2011
I am Eminem's biggest FAN not STAN!!!!!! i waited 10 hours did not eat drink or use the bathroom because there was no way I was leaving my front row spot.  I cried through the entire performance because I had been waiting for this day since middle school.  I could literally write and essay on my love for Eminem.  EMinem+EMily=4ever.  Best performance i have ever seen in my entire life!

Awkward mirror picture before i saw my future husband perform.  Also before my organs shut down

The Tattoo Eminem his backwards E.  OMG I'm literally acting like Stan.

The Black Keys 2010 2012
I mean this is a pretty obvious choice.  I have seen them twice as Lolla the first time when they were not a headliner performing on the Budweiser stage at like 5:00.  They are so good live i would pay millions of dollars to see them over and over again.

Fun. 2012
After being evacuated due to a very scary storm  both Jeana and I were very worried that we would not be able to see Fun.  But thank god they decided to push back the performance and stay.  It was also so cute to see the lead singer to like start to cry on stage because the crowd was so fun and out of control.

Phoenix 2010
Like they are just so cool and French.

MGMT
We love Andrew!

Ughhh this made me so depressed!!! Hurry up August!!!!!!

Ultimate Death Round: Lindsay Style

SUP CREWWWWWWWWWWW

Today is the day for my top 5 list.

These are in no particular order.

PLZ ENJOI.

 Capital Cities- Safe and Sound
I just really like this song lately.

Grace Potter & The Nocturnals- Goodbye Kiss
This lady (and band too) is just so talented. She can sing reggae inspired songs like this jam that I love, she can do straight up rock songs that make me feel like I'm getting high in the 70s (I wish I was) and then she can sing true ballads (Stars). AND shes funny AND her and her band make chocolate bars...such a girl crush on her it isn't even real.

Walk the Moon- Shiver Shiver
I just love this song, its so happy, so danceable. I also love the guy in the video and the dance he does at the end. I wish I knew that dance.

Two Door Cinema Club- What You Know
This is just a personal favorite song, always get so excited when it comes up on Songza (bye Pandora! Songza 4LYFE but seriously I haven't used Pandora in like 2 months)

Bear vs. Shark- The Great Dinosaurs with Fifties Section
Okay, Bear vs. Shark is one of my favorite bands. I remember freshman year at QU I had a Bear vs Shark poster above my bed and people would always be like WTF IS BEAR VS. SHARK? But they're so great, so many good songs. It was so hard for me to pick which one to post here...so sad that I never got to see them before they broke up. I'll have to post more of them, cause I literally just changed what song I was going to post three times.

Beast in the garden- I'll think of you,

Lindsay

Top 5 Songs of the Day

So, of our few readers (maybe 5 people), someone has requested we do a top song chart daily or frequently. Today, as I was bashing my head into my desk grading my midterms, I had on Imagine Dragons Pandora, which is quickly becoming my favorite over Mumford & Sons Pandora. Both Pandora stations are incredible and get me through a lot of tough times at work. Anyway, here's my top 5 for the day.

1. Naive by The Kooks

This song came on Pandora and I just started belting the lyrics. Granted, this was towards the end of grading half of my midterms and I was about to lose my mind, but I forgot how much I like the Kooks.

2. Gun Has No Trigger by Dirty Projectors

This song comes from my road trip home after Lollapalooza. Somehow every year I decide to make the trek home in one straight shot. Yes, that's over 14 hours in a car. I'm not sure how I make it most years, but this year was fueled by the new Dirty Projectors album. I like the beat of this song and they have such a unique sound.

3. Down by Metric

Probably my #1 song from Metric even though it's so old and does not sound like them. This song used to be on repeat often.

4. I Do Not Care for The Winter Sun by Beach House

This one is for Emily since she's obsessed with Beach House lately and it really is true... they can help with your depression. And I really do not care for the winter sun right now. As much as I love winter, I need to get out of the winter blues.

5. Infinity by The xx

This needs no explanation...

Well, after taking about a 3 hour nap, I'm gonna go back to sleep and hope tomorrow's midterms go a little better for my kids... Wishful thinking

Ultimate Death Round Take 2: Top 5 Songs (Today) Jeana.0

In light of the previous post by our very own gossip girl, I have no comment...

In other news, here is my list of top 5 songs (for today) because they would definitely change daily. But today, I enjoyed these while painting my nails for hours on end since we had an early dismissal from school.

These are in no particular order and today's theme is male vocals since everyone knows I'm partial to female vocals or female and male vocals combined.

1. Colourful Life by Cajun Dance Party
Cajun Dance Party is so interesting and I always forget about them until they play in my iTunes randomly. Everyone knows I have a weakness for accents.

2. Pieces of What by MGMT
This song is dedicated to Lollapalooza #1 (2010) because on the way home from Chicago, Emily and I spent about an hour listening to this song on repeat after falling in love with Andrew<3

3. Girls Like You by The Naked and Famous
This song will never get old and recently it has been on repeat in my car.

4. Vagabond by Wolfmother
This song is from 500 Days of Summer, one of the best movies and the song just makes me feel better.

5. Open Season by High Highs
This song was in Pitch Perfect and I discovered it was already in my iTunes.

There's my list... Enjoy!

Jeana

OMG SCANDAL IN OUR SOCIAL CIRCLE!!

It has come to my attention that our very own Jeana has what I like to call a new "tbt flavor of the week".  I'll let you figure this one out on your own but I will give you one clue.......

I can't revel my sources but I'll tell you that this story is 100% true.  Until next time you know you love me xoxoxox

3. Sounds Like Hallelujah- The Head and the Hurt
This song is musical Advil and helps me feel a little better

4.  Myth- Beach House
Jeana and I are going to the Gov Ball music festival and i started listening to them after i saw them on the lineup they are so fucking FRESH love this song

5. Rehab- Amy Winehouse
After this weekend I may need to reevaluate my drinking and my life.

Hope this makes your Monday a little better!

Ultimate Death Round: Top 3 Bands of All-Time

As Lindsay, myself, and Emily sit here in this New York apartment on the Upper East Side on a blistery, cold, snowy Friday night awaiting to celebrate the birth of our very own blogger, Emily Chernick, we are reflecting on our musical interests and favorite bands of all-time.

First up... the birthday girl herself: Emily Chernick.
Her top 3 all-time bands consists of...

  1. The Black Keys (maybe because they're from Akron and Emily holds a special place for her home state Ohio, or just the fact that they are amazing live and love hamburgers)
  2. Jack White/The White Stripes (solely because Emily was unsure if she could consider Jack White to be a band since he does many side projects)
  3. Red Hot Chili Peppers (because Emily has loved them since 7th grade and Anthony Kiedis inspired Emily to become a social worker)
Next up... representing Barack Obama from D.C.: Lindsay Mahoney.
Her top 3 all-time bands consists of...
  1. Minus The Bear ****** (Lindsay has seen them 8 times and counting in numerous states and she downloaded Instagram entirely for the band)
  2. Yeah Yeah Yeahs (because Lindsay used to explore nature all day to "Karen O")
  3. Grace Potter and The Nocturnals (Lindsay has just started to explore her music and thinks she is cool)
And finally up... representing the youth of America and awkward school dances: Jeana Favat
Her top 3 all-time bands consists of...
  1. Metric (mostly because I aspire to be Emily Haines and she has the most beautiful voice in the world)
  2. Of Monsters and Men (better known as OMAM mainly because I will never get sick of their first album and they wear straw hats when they perform and put birthday cakes on their stage)
  3. The Black Keys/The xx (this has to be a tie because I can't pick a top 3 since I love them all so much but The Black Keys will forever be a classic since they love hamburgers as well. The xx makes me depressed which is something I like)
This is the last thing we will remember as we venture out into the stormy weather to eat Chipotle and celebrate our youth.

Jeana, Lindsay, and Emily

Happy Birthday Emily

Today Emily turns 24! The last of the bloggers to get older...

In honor of her birthday, I figured Jack White would be appropriate

Happy Birthday Em!

One day we'll all be found

It's been a while since I've blogged which makes me sad and I don't really have any new music, but while planning for the busy week ahead, I am currently listening to the self-titled album of The Head and The Heart.

At Lollapalooza this past August, Emily and I had the opportunity to see them live. I didn't really know much about them as Emily had introduced me a week earlier, but I listened to a majority of their songs before we saw them. They were one of the best bands I've ever seen live, which is a statement in itself. Particularly, hearing Rivers and Roads (the inspiration for my newest tattoo coming soon) gave Emily and I legit chills. I was on the verge of tears it was so beautiful.

I hope to see them live again soon <3

Some kind of madness is starting to evolve

Hey World,

I'm supposed to be studying for a test to get my certification to be a Lead Paint Inspector in DC so of course, I'm writing this instead.

This song has been a favorite of mine lately and I've been hearing it a lot on 'rock' radio station down here which always makes me happy. I feel like Muse is a band that I should really like, but for some reason I never listen to them very much. So if you have any Muse suggestions, lemme know.

Muse-Madness

I always feel like I hear this song after work as I'm on the Key Bridge which is torture because of traffic (especially if there is a jumper like there was last week) but this coming on makes it more tolerable for those 5ish minutes.

Is it just madness keeping us afloat?

#GIRLS

Well today is Sunday... and everyone should know it's the season 2 premiere of GIRLS tonight on HBO. In light of said premiere, I decided to purchase the first season today and watch it in its' entirety. I am about halfway through and I discovered a song in the credits that I really enjoy. It reminds me of any upbeat Feist song. So, enjoy the song Overdrawn by White Sea on this dreary Sunday. I will continue to spend my afternoon watching the rest of season 1.

Snowball Fights and Chipotle

So, my day wasn't great... until about 3:45. School was school. Kids were kids. But the real fun started after school. As Sophia and I were leaving, we were walking to our cars and we got through the path of shoveled snow and I looked to my left only to see John standing about 30 feet away and a snowball was being launched in our direction. I had no time to react, but I watched as the snowball hit Sophia in slow motion. It was honestly the funniest thing that ever happened. Then, a snowball fight broke out. We used our cars as protection. I sat in mine while I watched John and another teacher throw snowballs back and forth at each other. Then I ran outside as it was ending and grabbed some snow and launched it. It hit directly on John's window as he was just about to sit in his car. Hilarious. After about 3 minutes of snowball fighting (wish someone had it on tape), we all left. As I'm driving out of the parking lot, my car gets hit. I look in my rear view mirror to see John giggling like a little girl and throwing two snowballs out of his sunroof. It honestly couldn't have been any funnier.I felt like I was in a movie for a second.

Which leads me to my Chipotle trip with Sophia, where they decided to play one of my FAVORITE songs from freshmen year of college. I believe it was my ringtone at one point (before being replaced by Breakin' Up by Rilo Kiley, another classic). I was so excited when it came on, I started singing. Anyway, here it is for Throwback Toozday as Andrew Davis said this morning on IG (that's short for instagram)

The Blow - True Affection

Happy Throwback Toozday. The week's almost over.

So, you wanna be my friend, but my best friends don't bring out their claws

I wanted to blog a bit last night, but yesterday John decided he needed an extra girl for his other co-ed soccer team. So how did I spend my Friday night? Oh yeah playing soccer. It was well worth it though because a Plan B burger was the reward for playing. My Friday nights seem to be getting more and more exciting these days. In any instance, this morning I figured I would post just one song that is going to get me through my day of heaping amounts of planning. Today's song pick is... drum roll...

Animal Baby by Alex Winston

I couldn't find the YouTube video, so we're resorting to the hype machine. This song makes me feel good all the time. It's so upbeat and her voice is so beautiful. It leaves me feeling optimistic for the new year, which my horoscope says will be undoubtedly an incredible year. Here's to hoping 2013 is the year that changes everything.

I'll leave you with an inspirational quote I found...
Music is a higher revelation
than all wisdom and philosophy.
Music is the electrical soil
in which the spirit lives, thinks and invents.

#Tbt Emily Style

Junior Year Quinnipiac Obsession!!!!! Straight Fuego Jamie and Jeana. I wish Jamie was still becoming the next Sam Adams back up dancer.

RIP The White Stripes- High school days swinging in my back yard with my best friends!
Well you can't be a pimp and a prostitute too!

Red Hot Chili Peppers first real concert I ever went to (after NSYNC).  One of my all time favorite bands. And my cell phone ring tone like forever!

Sophomore year at Quinnipiac I listened to an unhealthy amount of the song Hands by Jewel to the point where my roommates forced me to wear headphones because they were sick of listening to it.  As much as they hate to admit it they love this song too.

This song makes me think of swim practice in high school and the first year at lollapalooza.  Sorry Jeana for making you listen to this song like 500 times on the way back from lollapalooza.  You can make fun of me for liking a Green Day song I don't care.

(Kayla this one's for you)  I use to be obsessed with the show the Osbournes (thats how i discovered my favorite restaurant chipotle!) and I loved Kelly Osbournes version of Pappa Don't Preach.  I use to listen to it on repeat at swim meets just to piss my swim coach at the time.  We hated each other no wonder i hate swimming so much.  I was such a bitch in 5th grade.

In 7th grade my parents forced me to switch to catholic school it was cool for a year but then in 8th grade I was bullied by girls that use to be my friends.  I remember I would come home everyday from school hysterically crying over something rude and immature that the girls in my class would do.  So my mom would take me on shopping sprees to the only store in my town, Walmart.  There is only so many things you can buy at Walmart so one day i bought the Avril Lavigne CD and i remember complicated being my jam.  Who would have thought Avril Lavigne would help me through my tough middle school days.  Jealousy is a disgusting thing don't hate be hated!

Clearly I have had some questionable favorite songs in the past. But don't be nervous I really do have good taste in music.

Oh shit wow. Hook it up now. Look what the Roast Beefs' cookin' up now

Our good friend HKill is an upcoming artist. Emily and I are convinced HKill, Bobby Fresh, and Greg (aka The Roast Beefs) soon will be at the BMI stage at Lollapalooza. They recently made a new music video and I must say, it's one of my favorite Roast Beef songs... And I'm an avid fan of their first album Fo' Lunch. This song is just so great. Love you guys<3

Check out their new video Hook It Up on YouTube and check out their Facebook page
