#TBT (Version Jeana.0)

Throwback Thursday... the best day of the week.

As I take time out of my day to ignore the mounds of planning I have to do and also the packed bags sitting in my bedroom, I can't help but think about wonderful songs from my past and their meanings.

Today's theme: Strong-willed women in music (minus the first three choices)

This song will always remind me of freshmen year in college. In the wonderful land of D2E, this would be on repeat in the black pearl late night. I associate this song with drunken nights and literally ripping someone's clothes off. The lyrics speak for themselves.
Tear You Apart by She Wants Revenge

From one of my top 5 albums EVER (Transatlanticism), this song comes from spring track meets. It's amazing how much music and track were connected for me. This reminds me of my crush from track (he shall remain nameless) but he was a grade older and one time on the bus to a track meet, we shared a moment listening to this song.
The Sound of Settling by Death Cab For Cutie

This song makes me so happy. I love Wale and Justice. A combination of two great things. I think this song reminds me of college at some point. Most likely freshmen or sophomore year. But it just makes me want to literally D.A.N.C.E.  I also like that he references Gnarls Barkley <3CeeLo
WALEDANCE by Wale

This song makes me laugh so much. The very first time I heard this was spring break 2006 (junior year of high school) when Luzzi and I spent our entire vacation together doing stupid shit. This was legitimately our anthem for life. Every time I hear it, I think of those wonderful spring days turned into nights.
Promiscuous by Nelly Furtado and Timbaland

I think I can safely say that No Doubt fueled my love of music. Tragic Kingdom was released in 1995 when I was in 1st grade and I remember in 2nd grade that was the only music I would listen to. Don't Speak explained how I felt about everything in life. (Hilarious now to think that this song was explaining an 8 year old's life) So.. it's safe to say I've been in love with Gwen Stefani since a very young age. This throwback goes to sophomore year of high school - indoor track season. We used to have indoor track meets in Toms River at this bubble. Every meet we ever had there, they had a DJ, which was awesome because racing to music is the best. This song would ALWAYS be on at the bubble and it always got me ready for races.
Hollaback Girl by Gwen Stefani

Any song on Kate Nash's album Made of Bricks always makes me happy. I remember the first time I heard Kate Nash was at my friend Gina's graduation party from high school so the summer of 2008. I was instantly hooked and immediately began to obsess over every song. It was hard to pick just one song, but Birds is such a solid song. I looooove British accents and I always try to imitate while singing at home.

"Right, birds can fly so high
And they can shit on your head
And they can almost fly into your eye
And make you feel so scared.
But when you look at them
And you see that they're beautiful
That's how I feel about you"
Birds by Kate Nash

More British accents!! Junior year of high school was epic for music. This song came out and all my friends thought I was so weird for listening to this song, but it's amazing. (Linds and Em, remember when Lily Allen had a jewelry line and we thought it was sooo cool?)
Smile by Lily Allen

I always forget about this song, but it somehow comes back occasionally. I believe in 2farty is when we rediscovered this song and reveled in it yet again. It will always be a classic.
Love Me Or Hate Me by Lady Sovereign

Most of you know Mushaboom by Feist. Alone, it's a wonderful song, but when you combine Ben Gibbard, it becomes thousands times more amazing. I can't recall the first time I heard this or where I found it, but it's been a wonderful addition to my iTunes for so many years.
Mushaboom (Postal Service Remix) by Feist

Now that I've spent almost an hour writing this and reminiscing, it is unfortunately time to unpack my bags from Jersey and start to realize I have a job again. That 10 day hiatus holiday break was awful for my motivation level.

Until I feel inspired again by music...
