I have so much to say I'm not even sure where to begin... maybe my summer adventures which included a lot of time in cars thus yielding a lot of music listened to.
Lollapalooza 2013, although impossible to get tickets this year because of Stubhub assholes, was probably the best Lolla I've been to. Not even for the lineup this year, I just had an awesome time with friends and the atmosphere was the best yet. Plus, wearing jeans for 2 out of the 3 days didn't hurt. Also, talking to a man on molly was the highlight of my weekend. I love messing with incoherent people. There were a lot of great bands there this year and I enjoyed as many as I could... I'll leave most of the synopsis of Lolla 2013 to Emily, but my top 5 bands this year were:
1. Vampire Weekend
2. Ellie Goulding
3. Phoenix
4. Alt-J
5. The Neighbourhood
Honorable Mentions
The Killers (surprisingly extremely entertaining)
Imagine Dragons (minus their interrupted set by loss of power)
Emeli Sande (don't know much about her but that guurrrlll can sing)
After traveling to Chicago via car with Emily, I decided it'd be a good idea to drive cross country with my brothers in just 5 days. That's right... Jersey to Cali Sunday through Thursday. It was a rough drive but very eye-opening. Like there is nothing west of the Mississippi River until you get to the Pacific Ocean... legit. The most boring states to drive through were easily Nebraska and Nevada. They might as well not exist except for the fact they provide the US with corn and casinos. Oh well. On this trip, we listened to a lot of good music and we were listening to full albums which was fun. We listened to Flight of the Conchords (bringing me back to my college days), Vampire Weekend albums, The Black Keys albums, Phoenix albums, and of course the new Capital Cities album A Tidal Wave of Mystery.
Capital Cities album is amazing (minus the song Farrah Fawcett which I really hate... sorry Andre 3000). Kangaroo Court is my current favorite single, but obviously everyone has heard Safe and Sound. A must download album in my eyes.
After finally making it to Cali and relaxing for a day and a half, I took the red eye back to Philly, got in Sunday morning, took a power nap, and drove to CT to have my wisdom teeth pulled this morning. I went into the dentist today thinking I was going to be knocked out... seems the most logical. I got there only to discover they weren't actually knocking me out, they were just numbing me. I was pretty much shaking the whole time and sweating profusely, but I made it through and my dentist said I did awesome. Now, besides the swelling, pain, and not being able to eat solids for a week, I am indulging in some music. Obviously after my wisdom teeth were out (R.I.P. wisdom) I had to listen to Step by Vampire Weekend.
"The gloves are off, the wisdom teeth are out" explains my life perfectly... not to mention it's an awesome song. I miss them so much. They were one of the best bands I think I've ever seen live. And I wasn't even that big of a vampire weekend fan going into Lollapalooza. But coming out of there, I am forever changed. I would pay anything to see them multiple times. They were so fun and I forgot how many lyrics I actually knew.
So, things to take away from this post...
1. If you're going to travel cross country, skip Nebraska and Nevada unless you're going to Las Vegas I guess.
2. Vampire Weekend and Capital Cities are the hot bands this summer and fall
3. Wisdom teeth surgery just being numbed is as frightening as it sounds. I heard teeth breaking. That was fun
4. Summer vacation should be longer than 2 months.
Anyway, I suppose it's time to ice my face and also face the reality that I should start planning for another fun filled year of Math at MHS and QU, planning every event at the school, and shooting myself in the head.
Here's to hoping I blog sooner than 2 months from now...
xoxo
