Hello my little sweeties I have been so busy working 100 hour shifts starting at 6am that I have been so distant from music. But one of the benefits to working these very long days is that I get to hear my new favorite depression song every couple of hours. Currently my entire store is so sick of the current cd mix we are playing and I agree we need a new cd but I hope they keep this song in the mix. So I would like to officially welcome Angus & Julia Stone and their song Big Jet Plane to the depression playlist.
It is an honor to be added to the depression playlist so welcome!!!
As I was watching Alt-J interviews, on the right side of YouTube this band Savoir Adore came up. So I decided to give it a listen. This song reminds me so much of Stars' sound. Figured it was a good day to hear some new music.
Sup tricks, I been ghosting around this blog but now I'm back.
I didn't go to govs ball and from Jeanas review I'm glad I didnt. I did go to sweetlife festival in May and also had horrible weather but I saw the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and if you're a real fan you know they're a favorite of mine. They were the highlight of my summer and Karen O was everything I ever hoped she would be, trying to see them in a small venue next.
Passion Pit was also amazing but I think my favorite part of passion pit was some girl telling me I was her inspiration cause I was having so much fun dancing. Id like to see them in a smaller setting as well.
I have a lot of current obsession songs but I'm gonna go with Grouplove Ways to Go, it's awesome and so is the video.
I can't embed it since I'm writing this from a mobile device but here is the link.
Before I go into detail about day 3, I need to back track to day 1 because when we first got to the park, we saw Swear and Shake. After careful listening, I've concluded they are the next The Head and The Heart. They have a nice sound to them and I'm really enjoying it.
Anyway, back to day 3... I honestly forget what happened on this day. Oh yeah! Cold War Kids, Yeasayer, The Lumineers, and The xx. Well, needless to say the crowd at GB absolutely SUCKED. A bunch of party animals who just want to get drunk instead of listening to great music.
Cold War Kids were okay, nothing earth shattering. They did play my 2 favorite songs: Hospital Beds and Saint John, but I was expecting more from them. I'm not sure what else I needed but it was missing something.
Next, Emily and I hung out in the shade near the lawn games. I got pooped on by a bird which was upsetting. Then, we saw Yeasayer. They were so cool. I really enjoyed the little I saw of them. We headed over to The Lumineers to get a good spot, but it was way too crowded. I was also trying to find my cousin. We finally found him and his two friends and the crowd ruined the entire show... until the choir of children came! The Lumineers brought out little kids in their uniforms and they sang during Stubborn Love and Ho Hey. This is Emily and my dream for any band. Children choirs are a must. It was super cute. But, the crowd ruined the rest of the show. I'm looking forward to giving The Lumineers a second chance at Lolla in August.
Final show of the night: The xx... One of my all-time favorite bands (next to Metric). We've already seen them, but I was still excited to hear them. Once again, the idiots of the Governor's Ball were busy chatting and drinking instead of appreciating music. This would never happen at Lollapalooza. They ruined The xx for me and Emily and I checked out early.
Overall, if I were to grade the Governor's Ball Music Festival, I'd give it a C-. Now, part of this grade is due to the unfortunate weather, but I was honestly having fun the rainy day until I acquired hypothermia. The layout was not particularly appealing and it was a small festival for too many people. The grounds were very muddy everywhere and today is the first day I have clean feet. It's Wednesday people. That's too long to have muddy feet. The sound system wasn't particularly amazing. If you stood in a weird spot, you couldn't hear well and then there was of course the people. Lollapalooza would never let such people in, but it was just annoying to try to listen to a favorite band and have people ruin an experience when you know the band is amazing. Another thing I'd like to criticize them is if you aren't listening to music, there aren't a lot of things to do. At Lollapalooza, there is an activity to do no matter what. My other complaint is the Miller Lite situation. I drank Miller High Life all weekend, which is absurd. Who drinks Miller High Life anymore unless you're at 38 Raelin Road for a rager. Other than those complaints, I enjoyed the music I could hear over the drunk people and the food was decent. Oh, and the transportation to get there was pretty good considering the amount of people they had on the island.
A C- isn't particularly appealing on a transcript, so better luck next year Governor's Ball. Except not because I'm not giving you my money next year.
Lollapalooza for LIFE. Literally the best festival in the U.S.A.
Well as my previous post talked about the only good part of not only Saturday but the whole weekend was Alt J. Day two was filled with mud, tears, and miller light. Jeana and I were both open to giving this festival a second chance. The weather was beautiful but there is just so many things wrong with the festival it deserves its own post. Anyways Jeana and I arrived at the festival extremely early that day apparently we were very fast at getting ready. The second we walked in we knew that there was no way we could wear our shoes. Since the park has very little cement it was complete mud. So we became one with nature and embraced the mud. We know have the softest feet and may have contracted some diseases but oh well.
We made our first vine
The first band we listened to was Robert DeLong. I really love his song Global Concepts. I kind of hate to say I like him because i hate EDM and he is a little EDM ewww vomit I can't believe I said that.
There were a lot of young teens at the festival that day and then we came to the realization that they were all there for Icona Pop. Jeana decided during this time she wanted to be an undercover cop due to the amount of these young teens with drinking wrist bands. I said i just wanted to go up and pretend like I am interested in a fake ID and where to get one. Maybe next festival we can do that.
Alt J Front row that all i will say.
Immediately after Alt J was Edward Sharp and the Magnetic Zero aka Ryan Gossling. Love them but could not hear them because Governors ball does not believe in good sound systems and many people attending the Governors ball are not as interested in music and would much rather prefer shouting with their friends. Please for all of you annoying people at Governors Ball which was pretty much everyone please do not attend lollapalooza you are not welcomed.
We then ended the night with a suprise performance of Kings of Leon. They were suppose to play the previous night but it was canceled due to Tropical Storm Andrea. I also like to pretend that I am good friends with them because one of them is married to a VS model and since I'm an employee I like to pretend like I am friends with them. I mean I don't mean to brag but i did sit next to Candice while she ate lunch....
Overal the only good thing about day two was alt j. I don't really like this festival. It was too muddy the people attending was so annoying and it serves miller light when all I want is a Bud Light. Like what kind of world do we live in. I would say besides Alt J my only favorite part was watching a girl do meth besides me. Lollaplooza I will always love you! No one does it like Perry.
On January 9th 2013 I stumbled across a song called
Fitpleasure by a band called Alt-J. Immediately after the first listen I
fell in love the song. This then lead me to download the entire album An
Awesome Wave. I would say that on that January day my life changed
forever. My obsession for Alt J is intense and borderline they may need
to file a restraining order soon. The main reason why I wanted to attend
the Governors Ball was to see Alt J. I mean their shows sell out in the 5
seconds so clearly I was limited on how I would see them. The previous day Jeana and I stood in a tropical storm and I developed walking pneumonia but that was not going to stop me from seeing ∆. The entire
Saturday morning leading up to their show I had such anxiety because I was
finally going to get my chance to see them live. The last time my anxiety was this bad was when I went to see Charlie Sheen interesting.
Front row at Alt- J ∆ wearing my triangle shirt ∆
Jeana and I were very lucky and headed to the stage
very early and were able to get a front row spot which is the only acceptable
way for me to watch Alt J. Like five minutes before they were set to come
on this girl a little behind us "passed out" so security was asking
me to move so they could get her. I was like no way am I moving that dumb
bitch can have her friend move her to the side. Like sweetie clearly you
need to learn how to drink responsibly you embarrassing mess. But thats
besides the point I still kept my front row spot.
The second Joe, Gus, Gwil and Thom took the stage my heart honestly
stopped for like 5 seconds. I cried when they played fitzpleasure because
I just love them so much and I could not believe I was finally seeing them live. Dreams do come true . I tweet Alt J probably at least once a
week and as I have previously posted they responded to my tweet. I kept telling
Jeana that they kept recognizing me she doesn't agree with me but I still think
so. This is my all time number one favorite performance from a band ever. They are amazing live and everyone should go see them
(but stand in the back because front row is reserved for me only thanks). I was not disappointed they pretty much played all of An Awesome Wave which is what I was hoping for.
Today Governors Ball NYC commenced... Our first music festival that wasn't Lollapalooza. We expect big things from music festivals because we are spoiled with the best of the best. We woke up to the sound of rain and weather nearing the 60's... Sounding like a terrible day but who would actually expect it to rain ALL day... 12 hours straight?
First thing we did was we embarked on a poncho hunt. At Modell's, we spotted some XL men's rain coats. They were on sale for $19.99 so it seemed like the best idea. The worker there thought we were insane, but they were just what we needed to survive the monsoon/hurricane Andrea.
We managed to get to Randall's Island with no problems and were welcomed to the mud pit of America. There weren't that many people there yet, but we tried to explore the little island. Here's a taste of the bands we saw...
1. Swear and Shake
2. Bear Mountain (luckily this band was under a tent, so we had some shelter for 30 minutes)
3. Polica
4. Of Monsters and Men (This is about when Emily and I started to get hypothermia and pneumonia. We stood in the downpour for an hour jamming to our favorite band even though they were much less interactive this time. They must love Chicago.)
5. Crystal Castles
Now, at this point, it's about 6:00 pm. It is freezing, raining, and there is mud EVERYWHERE. Emily and I went to the silent disco and raved responsibly and silently. We then left the silent disco and decided the mud, rain, and pneumonia wasn't worth staying. We were going to miss out on Young the Giant and Kings of Leon...
Good thing for us, they cancelled Kings of Leon (not that we wanted to see them that bad). Reading the tweets of people has made our night because people are so pissed.
Here are some top tweets:
@hilmonstah: You guys is #GovBall gonna turn into the Oregon Trail? Are you gonna have to decide who's the best to ford the river with?
@laurenfazah: #GovBallmight as well have spent the day at the bottom of the East River
@Kia_Mak: Don't know much about event planning, but seems like plug could have been pulled on @GovBallNYC much earlier; cars now stuck in 10 in of mud
@NYNightlife: Shout out to the people at @GovBallNYC right now looking like they just finished a Spartan Race.
Moral of the story: Get out of the Governors Ball Music Festival when you are shaking, numb, and covered in mud.
Goodnight world... Hopefully day #2 brings better weather.
