First thing we did was we embarked on a poncho hunt. At Modell's, we spotted some XL men's rain coats. They were on sale for $19.99 so it seemed like the best idea. The worker there thought we were insane, but they were just what we needed to survive the monsoon/hurricane Andrea.
We managed to get to Randall's Island with no problems and were welcomed to the mud pit of America. There weren't that many people there yet, but we tried to explore the little island. Here's a taste of the bands we saw...
1. Swear and Shake
3. Polica
4. Of Monsters and Men (This is about when Emily and I started to get hypothermia and pneumonia. We stood in the downpour for an hour jamming to our favorite band even though they were much less interactive this time. They must love Chicago.)
5. Crystal Castles
Now, at this point, it's about 6:00 pm. It is freezing, raining, and there is mud EVERYWHERE. Emily and I went to the silent disco and raved responsibly and silently. We then left the silent disco and decided the mud, rain, and pneumonia wasn't worth staying. We were going to miss out on Young the Giant and Kings of Leon...
Good thing for us, they cancelled Kings of Leon (not that we wanted to see them that bad). Reading the tweets of people has made our night because people are so pissed.
Here are some top tweets:
@hilmonstah: You guys is #GovBall gonna turn into the Oregon Trail? Are you gonna have to decide who's the best to ford the river with?
@laurenfazah: #GovBall might as well have spent the day at the bottom of the East River
@Kia_Mak: Don't know much about event planning, but seems like plug could have been pulled on @GovBallNYC much earlier; cars now stuck in 10 in of mud
@NYNightlife: Shout out to the people at @GovBallNYC right now looking like they just finished a Spartan Race.
Moral of the story: Get out of the Governors Ball Music Festival when you are shaking, numb, and covered in mud.
Goodnight world... Hopefully day #2 brings better weather.
